What’s included in the $149 registration?
Your registration includes the full online training course and your ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Exam registration. After registering, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to schedule your exam.
When can I schedule my exam?
You can schedule your exam whenever you’re ready – you don’t have to complete the training first. However, we strongly recommend completing the training before taking the exam so you’re fully prepared. Important note: Some states and local jurisdictions require completion of an approved training program before you are eligible to sit for the exam. If this applies to your location, you must complete the SIUS training before scheduling your exam. Visit our State Requirements page or contact us if you’re unsure.
How long is my CFPM certification valid?
Your CFPM certification is valid for 5 years from the date you pass the exam.
What is a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM)?
A CFPM is a food safety credential earned by passing a proctored exam from an ANSI-accredited provider (such as ServSafe). Most states require at least one CFPM to be on staff at every food service establishment, and in many jurisdictions a CFPM must be on premises during operating hours. The CFPM is the person responsible for ensuring food safety standards are followed across the operation. Requirements vary by state – visit our State Requirements page for specifics on your location.
What’s the difference between Food Manager and Food Handler certification?
Food Manager certification (CFPM) is for the person in charge of food safety at the establishment – typically managers, shift leads, or owners. It requires completing a training program and passing a proctored exam. Food Handler training is a shorter program designed for all employees involved in food preparation, service, or handling. The requirements, format, and purpose are different – most establishments need both.

What happens after I register?
You’ll get immediate access to the online training course and an email with instructions for scheduling your ServSafe® exam. You can start the training right away and schedule your exam whenever you’re ready.
Can I pause the training and come back later?
Yes. Your progress is saved automatically. You can close your browser and pick up exactly where you left off.
Can I take the training on my phone?
Yes. The training is fully accessible on phones, tablets, and computers. No app download is required – just log in from any browser. Note: The ServSafe exam itself has its own system requirements, which will be outlined in your exam scheduling instructions.
What’s the difference between the training quizzes and the ServSafe exam?
The quizzes within the SIUS training are knowledge checks designed to reinforce what you’ve learned – they have unlimited retakes and are not proctored. The ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Exam is a separate, proctored exam that you schedule independently. Passing the ServSafe exam is what earns your CFPM certification.
How do I get my certificate?
Your CFPM certificate is issued by ServSafe upon passing the proctored exam – not by Serve It Up Safe. SIUS provides the training that prepares you for the exam. You will receive your certificate directly from ServSafe after passing.
